Over the next 4 weeks, we will continue with our vegetable planting. We have
already planted tomatoes, courgettes and sweet corn and we have bought potatoes
ready to plant as soon as the weather is suitable!
This week and next we will be doing Easter activities starting with making
cards. Next week we will organise an Easter Egg Hunt which will be outside if
possible .We will do one every day of the week to make sure that all the
children can take part. We will also be making Easter buns and Hot Cross Buns
next week.
The following week we are going to be making cress heads. We have been
collecting egg shells over the past few weeks so that we can make them into
little faces with cress hair growing out of them. The children will all take one
home so they can cut the hair and eat it in a sandwich .
We plan to do a big Spring wall display which all the children will help to
create. It will show blossom trees, daffodils and all the other things
associated with Spring.
Ofsted Some of you probably know that we had a visit from Ofsted last week.
Thank you to all the parents who spent time talking to the inspector.
We should get our report some time this week. There will be a copy in Nursery
that you can read but we will also put it on our website or you can go to the
Ofsted website where they publish all their reports.
Letter Sounds At Nursery we do lots of games involving phonics with the children
which helps them when they start school and they begin to read. We have noticed
that quite a few of our children know the names of some letters which they will
need to know when they are a little older, but at Nursery age, learning the
sounds is the best start for reading.
Staff News Teresa who was due to start last month had an unforeseeable family
problem so unfortunately she was unable to join us. We now have Irene starting
who we have known for a number of years as a Foster Carer. She is also from a
Primary teaching background so is completely tuned into this age group. We know
she is going to fit in really well and will be lovely to work with.
Funding Forms Please fill in your form and return it as soon as possible. Ethnic
codes are attached which you can fill in if you wish( there is no obligation)
Egg boxes
We need lots. If you remember, please save them for us.
Scrap Paper
If you work in an office where paper is thrown away, please throw it our way, even if it's used on one side. The children use huge quantities, most of which ends up in the bin after they've practised using scissors, colouring etc.
Cereal boxes
These are very useful for making all sorts of things. Please save them if you remember.
Bits and Pieces
Please remember that if you are introducing the children to letters, start off by telling them the letter sound rather than the name of the letter as this helps when they start to read and it's consistent with how we teach at the nursery.
